Mind Control

I honestly believe that your mind and your thoughts are the most influential thing to whatever it is that you are doing or want to do.

There have been numerous studies into the impact of different ways of thinking on outcomes, and also how small environmental or relational things can effect how we behave, even without our noticing.

There are studies that show that reading a certain sentence or passing a certain image can change how fast we walk or how confident we feel.

The impacts are shown to be fa beyond what most would expect.

I think that this is an important part of our own psychology for anyone who is trying to improve them selves or do their best needs to know about.

I’m just talking around the subject here because I am not an expert in psychology and I don’t want to mess it up – but I highly recommend you to look into it yourself.

There’s a reason why so many self-help information includes positive thinking, affirmations, controlling your environment and surrounding yourself with driven and positive people.

If something as small as a list of words that are somewhat but not directly related to being old can cause a group of people to walk slower, then imagine the impact that it must have on you to be surrounded day in and day out by people who are negative, or don’t want anything better for themselves, or even actively try to bring you down because they don’t like your actions.

Because that’s another thing – people do that!

Sometimes when people see you getting organised and starting to move your life in a better direction they get scared or jealous and they actively try to bring you back down.

The impact of that has got to be huge, whether you realise it or not.

So far, most of the posts in this blog have been about how I am trying to get control of my own mind.

I’m trying to control my anxiety and my depression, I’m trying to combat my procrastination and improve my decision making.

I’m trying to make myself believe that I can succeed and achieve my goals, that I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it.

That’s something that you get told often when growing up, but I think that at some point I started writing it off as just something that people say.

Surely it takes more that that right?

But the more that I learn about the mind and self-development, the more that I think it is right.

Because that is where it starts.

If you put your mind to it, then you are putting your effort into it.

You can build habits, you can believe in yourself, you can learn what you need to.

There are smarter ways around things for sure – if you focus on finding a better way to learn before you start trying to learn, then you it might take a little less effort.

But it all starts and ends in the mind.

If you are just starting – here is what I would recommend to make the most of your available mind-control:

  1. Make a vision board – it might sound silly (I know that I thought so) but just the visual reminder of what you are aiming for every time you pass it is worth it.
  2. Control your environment – ‘tidy life, tidy mind’
  3. Minimise time with sabotaging people/ try to find friends who want the same progression that you do
  4. Be aware of your own thoughts (mindfulness) – try to think positive about yourself and what you are doing, and shut down negative thoughts when they appear.

I know that these all sound easier then they actually are, but give it a try.

It could be the big first step in the right direction that you need to start making your own attempts at mind control that much easier.
